Anger Resolution Project

Anger Resolution for Men is a relatively new program of New Life Institute and is led by founding director, Bob Breihan. Breihan, working closely with a ground breaking program in Houston, known as Center For Anger Resolution, has found it to be a very useful process for angry men, enabling them to gain or regain control of their lives.

Newton Hightower, director of the Houston program, was a highly addicted rageaholic for many years, and slowly discovered the system now offered here. Many will testify to its helpfulness and that it has saved their marriages and/or their jobs.

Sometimes there are enough participants to work as a group. Other times, the work is done on a one-to-one basis with Bob Breihan. Both the group or the one-on-one are equally helpful.

Meetings are held at New Life Institute offices, 314 E. Highland Mall Blvd., Suite 305, by appointment (469.9447 - suggest calling in the mornings). Cost is $35/session plus the cost of a book, $15.

Bob Breihan, LMFT, is a Methodist minister who has been a professional family therapist for thirty years, formerly a campus minister, engineering officer in US Navy, and a career counselor.

Hightower's book is Anger Busting 101. His website is www.angerbusters.com

Career Planning

Where do I go from here with my life? is a workshop in one of two formats. Friday evening, all day Saturday, Sunday afternoon - 14 hours; or 2 1/2 hours once a week for 8 weeks. The content is the same and is largely based on What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Bolles. Leader is Bob Breihan, who has trained extensively with Bolles. He has presented this very helpful program for many years here in Austin. Tuition is $100.

None are scheduled presently. Watch this space for announcements, or call 469.9447. Breihan works individually at $50/hr.

Marriage

Marriage preparation has long been a format at New Life Institute to assist those preparing for that endeavor. The most frequent manner is using the well developed and well known program, Engage/Prepare, based in Minneapolis. The couple spends half an hour privately answering a questionnaire which is then sent to Minneapolis for factoring. The results become the basis for at least an hour of discussion, focusing on the differences in the answers.

Sometimes more time is needed to cover the issues that are raised. Also, sometimes, in the spring, there is enough interest to form a group, to meet for a full day, which enhances the process. Cost is $120 (including one hour feedback, additional time is $75/hr). Group costs are the same, $120 for one day. Contact the office for information.

Leader is Rev. Bob Breihan, LMFT, United Methodist clergy professionally trained as a family/marriage therapist, with many years experience.

Marriage Counseling is done, at New Life Institute, by all staff members and primarily by Bob Breihan.

Marriage Planning and Officiating
can be done by Rev. Bob Breihan or by Rev. Sarah Bentley. Both are experienced clergy.

“Self and Relationships”
A Women’s Group

As a woman - Do you sometimes feel that no matter how hard you try, you will never be “good enough?”
As a wife, partner, mother or worker - Do  you often find everyone else’s needs coming before your own?
As an individual human being - Do you have trouble remembering your own unique worth, talents, and sense of purpose in life?  Is it difficult to keep your own spiritual connection alive and well?

We will meet as a group of women to explore these questions concerning how to  maintain “selfhood” within our webs of relationships.

The group will be a combination of individual exploration, supportive process among members, and didactic sharing by leader.  Handouts and recommended  reading will be provided.

This 14-week psychotherapy group will provide support to help you put yourself  comfortably at the center of your life and, from that center, to build  meaningful, mutually nourishing relationships.

Facilitator: Martha Brandt, M.Ed., LPC

See our calendar for this and other scheduled program dates and times.
